Intermittent connection issues with LinkedIn Ads source causing syncs to fail with SSL certificate verification error


Question

beginning today, my LinkedIn Ads source is having intermittent connection issues causing the syncs to fail. each time it prompts me to re-authenticate the connection, which rarely succeeds, and mostly fails with this error message:
SSLError(MaxRetryError('HTTPSConnectionPool(host=\'www.linkedin.com\', port=443): Max retries exceeded with url: /oauth/v2/accessToken (Caused by SSLError(SSLCertVerificationError(1, "[SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED] certificate verify failed: Hostname mismatch, certificate is not valid for \'www.linkedin.com\'. (_ssl.c:1129)")))'))
any ideas why? thanks!
